چکیده

A linear periodically time-varying (LPTV) system is a linear time-varying system with the coefficients changing periodically, which is widely used in control, communications, signal processing, and even circuit modeling. This thesis concentrates on identification of LPTV systems. To this end, the representations of LPTV systems are thoroughly reviewed. Identification methods are developed accordingly. The usefulness of the proposed identification mehtods is verified by the simulation results. A periodic input signal is applied to a finite impulse response (FIR)-LPTV system and measure the noise-contaminated output. Using such periodic inputs, we show that we can formulate the problem of identification of LPTV systems in the frequency domain. With the help of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT), the identification method reduces to finding the least-squares (LS) solution of a set of linear equations. A sufficient condition for the identifiability of LPTV systems is given, which can be used to find appropriate inputs for the purpose of identification. In the frequency domain, we show that the input and the output can be related by using the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and a least-squares method can be used to identify the alias components. A lower bound on the mean square error (MSE) of the estimated alias components is given for FIR-LPTV systems. The optimal training signal achieving this lower MSE bound is designed subsequently. The algorithm is extended to the identification of infinite impulse response (IIR)-LPTV systems as well. Simulation results show the accuracy of the estimation and the efficiency of the optimal training signal design.

Linear Periodically Time-Varying Discrete-Time Systems: Aliasing and LTI Approximations

Linear periodically time-varying (LPTV) systems are abundant in control and signal processing; examples include multirate sampled-data control systems and multirate lter-bank systems. In this paper, several ways are proposed to quantify aliasing eeect in discrete-time LPTV systems; these are associated with optimal time-invariant approximations of LPTV systems using operator norms.

Frequency Domain Total Least Squares Identification of Linear, Periodically Time-Varying Systems from Noisy Input-Output Data

This paper presents an extension of the well known linear time invariant identification theory to Linear, Periodically Time-Varying (LPTV) systems. The considered class of systems is described by ordinary differential equations with coefficients that vary periodically over time, making use of multisines both for excitations as well as for the time-varying system parameters. To solve the model e...

The Performance of Discrete Linear Time Varying Control of Linear Periodic Plants

This paper analyzes the performance of discrete linear time varying (LTV) control of discrete linear periodically time varying (LPTV) plants for l2 disturbance rejection. It extends the results of [11-13] for linear periodic controllers to general LTV control of LPTV plants. It is shown that LPTV control provides strictly better control performance than linear strictly time varying control for ...

A Low complexity solution to the implementation of linear periodically time varying filters-FPGA implementation

This paper presents an area efficient architecture for a linear periodically time varying (LPTV) filter. It is developed from the output switching representation of LPTV filter. In this representation, an N-tap,M Period LPTV filter can be realized by M linear time invariant (LTI) filters of N taps each connected in parallel with an M periodic switch at the output. We devloped an area efficient ...

Noncausal linear periodically time-varying scaling for discrete-time systems

A novel technique called noncausal linear periodically time-varying (LPTV) scaling was introduced recently, and it was shown that even static noncausal LPTV scaling has an ability of inducing frequency-dependent scaling if it is interpreted in the context of the conventional scaling approach. Motivated by this preceding study of ours, this paper studies to exploit this attractive property and d...
